Methbot was one of the first instances of large-scale ad fraud we witnessed. This botnet consisted of bots watching millions of video ads a day. We ultimately took down the operation and the operators were sentenced to jail time.

10 Years in Prison
The ringleader of the Methbot scheme was sentenced to 10 years in prison and restitution fines of more than $3.5 million.

3ve quickly eclipsed Methbot in scale by infecting millions of devices conducting ad fraud. This botnet was taken down when we brought together industry leaders like Google and law enforcement.

Scylla

Scylla was a highly sophisticated ad fraud operation that specifically targeted mobile apps. Those infected apps were downloaded millions of times. We were able to disrupt this wave, but we’re still monitoring the operation.

3 Attack Waves
Scylla is the third attack wave from these ad fraud operators.  It started in 2019 with Poseidon and 2020 with Charybdis.

Vastflux

The VASTFLUX operators wove multiple types of ad fraud together - such as malvertising - to create a worldwide botnet. We were able to facilitate an unprecedented private takedown with our customers and The Human Collective.
