State of Agentic Traffic – July 2026: Publishers Claim Highest Share of Agentic Traffic

Agentic AI, AI

State of Agentic Traffic is HUMAN’s monthly benchmark on how AI agents are showing up across the web. Each edition reports on agent mix, sector destinations, and activity patterns observed across the Human Defense Platform, extending findings from the annual 2026 State of AI Traffic & Cyberthreat Benchmark Report.

This is a monthly report by HUMAN’s Satori Threat Intelligence Team, which monitors all agentic traffic and other observed automated traffic and produces insights surrounding the trends, the developments, and the threat landscape.

Key Findings

AI agent traffic by operator

In June, Comet Browser remained the largest source of agentic traffic, accounting for 47.13% of total volume, nearly half of all traffic.

After surpassing Atlas for the first time in June, the Claude Chrome extension continued its upward trajectory, growing 11.6% month over month. It retained second place, representing 24% of total agentic traffic. Atlas, which OpenAI announced it will sunset in August, declined 9% in overall volume, with its share falling from 16.5% to 15.5%.

ChatGPT Agent and Genspark also continued to contract. ChatGPT Agent fell from nearly 9% of total traffic in May to 6.1% in July, while Genspark declined from 3.0% to 2.4% over the same period.

Following last month’s significant growth, browser-agent tooling recorded modest declines. Browserbase decreased from 2.7% to 2.6%, while Browser Use Cloud fell from 1.2% to 1.0%.

Cursor’s built-in agentic browser made its first appearance in the top 10, replacing AgentCore’s agentic browser.

Industry shares of AI agent traffic

In July, the media sector, including publishers, surpassed e-commerce in both volume and market share for the first time. Media captured 43.5% of all agentic traffic, while e-commerce dropped to 42.0%. Travel remained stable, holding a 13.4% share.

Among smaller sectors, performance was mixed: education experienced a sharp 62.3% surge in volume (though it still accounts for just 0.03% of total traffic), whereas the streaming and gaming sector contracted by nearly 50%, falling to 0.14% of overall agentic activity.

What agents are doing: Agentic traffic by page category

Discovery and research continue to drive the vast majority of agentic activity, a focus that sharpened even further in July. Product and search routes (browsing listings, reading articles, and executing queries) accounted for 76% of all activity, reinforcing the ongoing trend that agents are primarily leveraged for research rather than completing transactions.

At the same time, July data points to a growing willingness among users to connect agents to their personal accounts. Authentication routes rose from 5.3% to 7%, while user account interactions climbed from 5.7% to 6.4%.

Other routes remained largely unchanged from June, including content engagement (4%), miscellaneous activity (3.7%), and checkout/payment (2.6%).

Methodology

Data reflects agentic traffic observed across HUMAN Sightline Cyberfraud Defense during July 2026. Agent identification combines behavioral signal analysis, user-agent attribution, and publisher-level integration where available. Sector and route categorization reflects the destination endpoint, not the agent operator’s intent.

The benchmarks above show agentic activity observed by HUMAN Sightline Cyberfraud Defense and AgenticTrust. On your own site, most analytics tools can’t distinguish AI agents from human visitors, let alone identify specific agents or classify their intent.

AgenticTrust is HUMAN’s trust and control layer for AI agents. It gives security, fraud, commerce, and marketing teams continuous visibility into every agent session, classifies intent as the session unfolds, and enforces adaptive policies based on what agents are actually doing.
